Introduction to Joel

Joel was a prophet in Jerusalem, and the major subject of the Book of Joel is the Day of the LORD, the Day of Yahweh, most specifically the Great Tribulation.

The date Joel was written is hotly debated. Many liberal scholars place it after the exile, but it could have been, and likely was, written before the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem. Thankfully, knowing the date Joel was written does not severely influence the text since it does deal to such an extent with the Day of Yahweh, which is still future.
