O Yahweh, the God of my salvation, I have cried out by day and in the night before you.
Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry!
For my soul is full of distress. And my life is on the brink of Sheol.
I am counted with those who go down into the pit. I have become like a man who has no help,
set free among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave whom you no longer remember. Yes, these have been cut off from your hand.
You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the dark places, in the depths.
Your wrath has fallen upon me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah.
You have put my close friends far from me. You have put me as an abomination to them. I am shut up and I cannot escape.
My eyes have wasted away because of affliction. I have called on you every day, O Yahweh. I have stretched out my hands to you.
Will you work a wonder for the dead? Will the deceased stand up and praise you? Selah.
Will your covenant faithfulness be declared in the grave; your truth in Abaddon?
Will your wonder be made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
But I, O Yahweh, have cried out for help to you. Yes, in the morning my prayer meets you.
Why, O Yahweh, do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?
I am afflicted and close to death from my youth; I bore your terrors, I am helpless.
Your burning anger has passed over me. Your terrors have destroyed me.
They have surrounded me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me.
You have put loved one and friend far from me; my close friends—I’m in darkness!
