For the Musical Director;
on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre.
A Psalm of David.
1 O Yahweh, do not reprove me in your anger,
nor correct me in your wrath.
2 Show favor unto me, O Yahweh, for I am frail.
Heal me, O Yahweh, for my bones are troubled.
3 My soul is also very troubled.
But you, O Yahweh–how long?
4 Return, O Yahweh. Deliver my soul
and save me on account of your covenant faithfulness.
5 For in death there is no mention of you.
In Sheol, who can give you praise?
6 I am weary with my groaning.
Every night I make my bed swim.
I flood my couch with my tears.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief.
It grows old because of all those who act hostile to me.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of wickedness,
because Yahweh has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 Yahweh has heard my supplication.
Yahweh accepts my prayer.
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and very troubled.
May they turn back, and may they be suddenly ashamed.
