A Psalm of Asaph.

The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, spoke, and he summons the earth from the rising to the setting of the sun.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone forth.
May our God come and not keep silent. A fire devours before him. And a raging tempest is around him.
He calls to the heavens above, and to the earth, to judge his people:
“Gather my faithful ones together to me, those who have cut a covenant with me with a sacrifice.”
And the heavens will declare his righteousness, for God himself judges. Selah.
“Hear, my people, and I will speak; and I will testify against you, O Israel. I am God, your God.
I do not reprove you for your sacrifices. And your burnt offerings are continually before me.
I will not take a young bull from your house, nor he-goats from your folds.
For every living thing in the forest is mine, and the cattle on 1,000 hills.
I know every bird of the mountains. And everything that moves in the field is mine.
If I were hungry, I would not tell you; for the world is mine, and all its fullness.
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of he-goats?
Sacrifice to God thanksgiving! And fulfill your vows to the Most High.
And call on me in times of distress. I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
But to the wicked person, God says, “What right do you have to recite my statutes, and to take up my covenant in your mouth?
For you hate instruction and throw my words behind you.
When you saw a thief, you were pleased with him, and you shared company with adulterers.
You harness your tongue to evil. Your tongue frames deceit.
You sit and speak against your brother. You even slander your own mother’s son.
You have done these things, and I kept silent. You thought that I was just like you. I will reprove you and make my legal case in front of your eyes.
Now discern this, all you who forget God, lest I tear you into pieces and there be no one to deliver.
The one who sacrifices thanksgiving honors me, and prepares his way. I will show him the salvation of God.”
