For the Musical Director.
A Psalm of David.

O Yahweh, you have searched me and you know me.
You yourself know when I sit down and when I stand up. You discern what I think from afar.
You measure out where I go and when I rest, yes, you are acquainted with all my road.
For an utterance does not have to be on my tongue, behold, O Yahweh, you know it altogether.
You have enclosed my back and front and you laid your hand on me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is so high I am unable to attain it.
Where could I go from your spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning dawn, if I settle in the farthest part of the sea,
even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.
If I say, “Surely darkness will cover me, the light around me will be night,”
even darkness is not dark to you, but the night shines like the day. The darkness and the light are alike.
For you yourself created my innermost parts; you wove me together in my mother’s womb.
I give thanks to you, for I am amazingly and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful and my soul is abundantly aware of this.
My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret, skillfully woven together in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my embryo; and in your scroll they were all written— the days that were formed before there was any of them.
Yes, how precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How mighty is their sum!
If I could count them, they would be more numerous than the sand. When I wake up, I am still with you.
If only you, O God, would kill the wicked person. Depart from me, O men of bloodshed!
They speak of you deceitfully, your enemies take your name in vain.
Should I not hate, O Yahweh, the person who hates you? Do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
I hate them with the utmost hatred; they have become enemies to me.
Search me, O God, and know my heart. Examine me and know my anxious thoughts.
Yes, see if there is any idolatrous way in me, then lead me in the everlasting way!
