O God of vengeance, O Yahweh, O God of vengeance, shine forth!
Rise up, O Judge of the earth. Repay the proud what they deserve!
How long will the wicked, O Yahweh, how long will the wicked triumph?
They spew forth arrogance when they speak. All who work wickedness boast.
They crush your people, O Yahweh, and they afflict your inheritance.
They kill the widow and the sojourner, and they murder the orphans.
And they say, “Yah does not see, nor does the God of Jacob pay attention.”
Pay attention, you stupid ones among the people; yes, you fools, when will you comprehend?
He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who created the eye, does he not see?
He who disciplines the nations; who teaches knowledge to humankind; will he not punish?
Yahweh knows the thoughts of humankind, that they are pointless.
Blessed is the man whom you correct, O Yah, and whom you teach out of your Torah,
that you may give him peace from evil days until a pit is dug for the wicked person.
For Yahweh will not abandon his people, nor will he forsake his inheritance.
For justice will return to the righteous person, and all who are upright in heart will follow it.
Who will rise up for me against evildoers? Who will stand up for me against those who do wickedness?
Unless Yahweh had been my help, my soul would have soon dwelt in silence.
When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your covenant faithfulness, O Yahweh, supported me.
When my anxious thoughts were many within me, your consolations delighted my soul.
Can the throne of destruction be allied with you; he who created trouble by decree?
They band together against the soul of the righteous person and condemn innocent blood.
But Yahweh has been my stronghold, yes, my God, the rock of my refuge.
He will return their wickedness upon them and he will annihilate them in their evil. Yahweh our God will annihilate them.
