O Lord, you have been our refuge from generation to generation.
Before the mountains were born, and before you bore the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.
You return man to dust, and you say, “Return, O children of man!”
For a thousand years in your eyes are just like yesterday when it passes by, and like a watch in the night.
You wash them away. They sleep. In the morning humanity sprouts up like green grass.
In the morning it flourishes and sprouts. Toward evening it withers and dries up.
For we have come to an end in your anger; and we are terrified by your rage.
You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
For all our days have dwindled in your wrath. We have finished our years like a sigh.
The days of our years, in them, are seventy years, or even with strength, eighty years; yet their pride is labor and sorrow, for it is gone quickly and we fly away.
Who knows the strength of your anger and your wrath, according to the fear that is due to you?
So teach us to number our days, that we may obtain a heart of wisdom.
Turn back, O Yahweh! How long? Show sorrow for your servants!
Satisfy us in the morning with your covenant faithfulness, that we may shout for joy and be glad all our days.
Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for the years we have seen evil.
Let your deeds appear to your servants; and your splendor to their children.
Yes, let the kindness of the Lord our God be on us; and establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands!
