For the Musical Director.
To the tune of “Do Not Ruin.”
An inscribed poem of David, when Saul sent men and they watched the house to kill him.

Deliver me from my enemies, my God. Set me on high from those who rise up against me.
Deliver me from the workers of wickedness. Yes, save me from the men of bloodshed.
For, behold, they lie in wait for my soul. The mighty attack me, not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Yahweh.
I am without iniquity; they run and have determined themselves. Rouse yourself to meet me and look!
And you, O Yahweh God of Hosts, the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish the nations. Do not show favor to all who act unfaithfully in wickedness. Selah.
They return at evening, growling like dogs, and they walk around the city.
Behold, they pour out from their mouth. Swords are on their lips; “For who hears us?”
But you, O Yahweh, laugh at them. You mock all the nations.
Oh my Strength, I keep watch for you, for God is my stronghold.
My God will meet me in his covenant faithfulness. God will let me look in triumph over my enemies.
Do not kill them, lest my people forget. Shake them with your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield.
The sin of their mouth and the speech of their lips, let them be captured by their pride, for the curses and lies that they tell.
Consume them in heat! Consume them and they will be no more. Let them know that God rules in Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah.
They return again at evening, growling like dogs and walking around the city.
They roam about for food. They will stay until they are satisfied.
But as for me, I will sing of your strength. Yes, I will shout with joy of your covenant faithfulness in the morning. For you have been a stronghold for me, a refuge in my time of distress.
O my Strength, I will make music to you. For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me covenant faithfulness.
