1 The plans of the heart belong to people,
but the answer of the tongue comes from Yahweh.
2 All the roads of a person are pure in his own eyes,
but Yahweh examines the motives.a
3 Commit your works to Yahweh,
and your plans will be established.
4 Yahweh made everything with an answer to it,
and even the wicked person on a day of evil.
5 Every arrogant heart is an abomination to Yahweh;
be assured, he will not go unpunished.
6 Iniquity is atoned for by loyalty and faithfulness,
and by the fear of Yahweh one turns away from evil.
7 When Yahweh takes pleasure in a person’s road,
even his enemies will make peace with him.
8 Better is a little with righteousness,
than great income with a lack of justice.
9 A person’s heart devises his own road,
but Yahweh prepares his steps.
10 A verdict is on the lips of the king;
his mouth should not violate justice.
11 A just balance and scales are according to Yahweh;
all the weights in the bag are his concern.
12 It is an abomination forb kings to commit wickedness
because the throne is established in righteousness.
13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings,
and the one who speaks with integrity will be loved.
14 A king’s rage is like messengers of death,
but a wise person will pacify the anger.
15 In the light of a king’s face there is life,
and his favor is like clouds that bring spring rain.
16 How much better to get wisdom than gold!
And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
17 The highway of the upright is to turn away from evil;
the one who guards his roadc is keeping watch over his lifed.
18 Pride goes before disaster,
and a puffed-up spirit before stumbling.
19 Better to be lowly in spirit with the poor
than to share the plunder with the proud.
20 The one who comprehends a wise saying will find good,
and blessed is the one who is trusting in Yahweh.
21 A person with a wise heart will be called “one who understands,”
and sweetness of lips will increase persuasive teaching.
22 Good judgment is a fountain of life for its owner,
but the teaching of fools is foolishness.
23 The heart of a wise person gives insight to his mouth,
and it increases the persuasive teaching upon his lips.
24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
25 There is a road that seems upright to a person,
but its end is roads leading to death.
26 A laborer’s appetite labors for him,
for his mouth urges him on.
27 A man of Belial digs up evil,
and the words upon his lips are like a burning fire.
28 A perverse person sows strife,
and a gossipe separates close friends.
29 A violent person entices his neighbor,
and he leads him on a road that is not good.
30 The one who winks his eyes devises perversions;
the one who purses his lips brings evil to pass.
31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor;
it is found on the road of righteousness.
32 The one who is slow to get angry is better than a mighty person,
and one who rules his spirit is better than one who captures a city.
33 The lot is cast into the lap,f
but each of its judgments is from Yahweh.
