Two Marys View the Tomb

Now late on the Sabbath day, as it began to dusk and come toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.

Angel Opens Jesus’ Empty Tomb

And Look! There was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and was sitting on it.
His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was white as snow,
and for fear of him the guards shook, and became as dead men.

And the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not fear, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who has been crucified.
He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come, see the place where he was lying,
and go quickly and tell his disciples he was raised from the dead. And indeed, he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there. Look, I have told you.”
And having departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to report about him to his disciples.
And Look! Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings.” And they came and took hold of his feet and paid homagea to him.
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go away to Galilee, and they will see me there.”

The Report of the Guards

Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city, and told the chief priests all the things that happened.
And after they had assembled with the elders and discussed the matter, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,
saying, “Say that his disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were sleeping.
And if the governor hears about this, we will persuade him and keep you out of trouble.”
So they took the money and did as they were instructed, and this report was spread around among the Jews, and continues until this day.

The Great Commission

The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them.
And when they saw him, they bowed down before him, but some doubted.
And Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the holy spirit,
teaching them to obey all that I commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
