Now early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the Peoplea took counsel together against Jesus to put him to death. Bible
a[1]
The nation of Israel was called “the People,” so it is appropriate to capitalize it when it refers to Israel.

“Now early in the morning.” This counsel is the trial of the Sanhedrin that occurred around dawn on Tuesday morning. Jesus was condemned and sent from this trial to Pilate. This trial is covered in Matthew, Mark, and Luke, but left out of John (Matt. 27:1; Mark 15:1; Luke 22:66-23:1).
