He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? The kings of the earth, from whom do they receive customs or poll tax? From their sons, or from others?”
“poll tax.” The Greek word is kēnsos (#2778 κῆνσος). In the NT it referred to the tax or tribute levied on individuals, and it was to be paid yearly. See commentary on Mark 12:14.
