Matthew Chapter 11    

¹And it came to pass when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
 

²Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ,^a he sent by his disciples
  ³and said to him, “Are you the Coming One, or should we expect someone different?”
  ⁴And Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things that you hear and see:
  ⁵the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the people with skin diseases^b are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised, and the poor have good news proclaimed to them,
  ⁶and blessed is the one who will not fall away because of me.”
 

⁷And as these went their way, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, “What did you go out into the desert to look at? A reed shaken by the wind?
  ⁸But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Look! Those who wear soft clothing are in king’s houses.
  ⁹But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet.
  ¹⁰This is he of whom it is written, Look! I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare the road before you.^{c
  11}Truly I say to you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen a greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is the least important person in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
  ¹²And from the days of John the Baptist until now the Kingdom of Heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful people are seizing it as a prize.
  ¹³For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
  ¹⁴And if you are willing to accept it, he himself is Elijah, who was to come.
  ¹⁵Anyone who has ears had better listen!
 

¹⁶“But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their fellows
  ¹⁷and say, ‘We played the flute for you but you did not dance. We sang a dirge, but you did not mourn.’
  ¹⁸For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
  ¹⁹The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘See! A gluttonous man and a wino, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is declared righteous by her works.”
 

²⁰Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works were done, because they did not repent.
  ²¹“How terrible it will be for you, Chorazin! How terrible it will be for you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
  ²²But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the Day of Judgment than for you.
  ²³And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to the grave, for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom that were done in you, it would have remained until this day.
  ²⁴But I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the Day of Judgment, than for you.”
 

²⁵At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children.
  ²⁶Yes, Father, because this was well-pleasing in your sight.
 

²⁷“All things have been handed over to me by my Father. And no one really knows the Son except the Father, neither does anyone really know the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son determines to reveal him.
  ²⁸Come to me, all you who are laboring and have been loaded down with burdens, and I will give you rest.
  ²⁹Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am meek and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
  ³⁰For my yoke is kind, and my burden is light.”
