Jesus Heals a Leper

And when he had come down from the mountain, large crowds followed him.
And look, a man with a serious skin diseasea came to him and bowed down before him, saying, “Lord, if you are willing, you are able to make me clean.”
And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing. Be clean!” And immediately his skin disease was cleansed.
And Jesus said to him, “See to it that you don’t tell anyone, but go show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded as a testimony to them.”

The Trust of a Centurion

Now when he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him and pleaded with him,
saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
And the centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy for you to come under my roof, but just say the word and my servant will be healed.
For I also am a man under authority, and I have soldiers under me, and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
And when Jesus heard it, he was amazed, and said to those who were following him, “Truly I say to you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so much trust.
And I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will recline to eat at the feast with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the Kingdom of Heaven,
but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the darkness outside. There will be sobbing and gnashing of teeth.”
And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; it will be done for you just as you have believed.” And the servant was healed that very hour.

Many Healed in Capernaum

And when Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying down, sick from a fever.
And he touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.

Now when evening had come, they brought to him many who were afflicted by demons, and he cast out the spirits with his word and healed all who were sick
so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled, which says, he himself took our sicknesses, and carried our diseases.b

The Cost of Following Jesus

Now when Jesus saw large crowds around him, he gave orders to depart to the other side of the lake.
And an expert in the law came and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have dens, and the birds of heaven have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
And another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”

Jesus Calms the Storm

And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.
And look! A violent storm rose up on the lake,c so much so that the boat was being covered by the waves—but he was asleep.
And they came to him and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord! We are about to die!”
And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little trust?” Then he got up and subdued the winds and the sea, and it became completely calm.
And the men were amazed, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the lake obey him?”

Demons Cast Out of Two Men

And when he had come to the other side, into the region of the Gadarenes, two men who were afflicted by demons met him, who were coming out of the tombs. They were so exceedingly violent that no one could pass by that way.
And Look! They cried out, saying, “What do you want with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”
Now at some distance from them there was a herd of many pigs feeding.
And the demons were begging him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.”
And he said to them, “Go.” And they came out and went into the pigs and—look at this—the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and perished in the waters.
And the men who were looking after them fled and went away into the city and reported everything, especially what happened to those who had been afflicted by demons.
And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they urged him to depart from their territory.
