This entire verse (and Mark 9:44) was an addition to the text, and so is omitted in the REV, just as it is omitted in many other modern versions as well. Metzger simply makes the comment that these verses are “lacking in important early witnesses” [i.e. manuscripts] and “were added by copyists from v. 48.”^a In other words, the evidence that this verse, as well as verse 44, were added by copyists is so strong that it is not even debated by scholars.
