Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man

And when he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was at home.
And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer any room, not even around the door, and he was speaking the word to them.
And they came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four.
And when they were not able to bring the man to him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was, and when they had dug through it, they let down the bed on which the paralyzed man lay.
And Jesus, seeing their trust, says to the paralyzed man, “Child, your sins are forgiven.”

But there were some of the experts in the law sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,
“Why does this man speak this way? He speaks defaming words. Who is able to forgive sins but God alone?”
And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, says to them, “Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?
Which is easier: to say to the paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’ or to say, ‘Get up, and take up your bed, and walk’?
But so you know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then says to the paralyzed man
“I say to you, get up, take up your bed, and go to your house.”
And he got up and immediately took up the bed and went out in front of them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”

Jesus Calls Levi (Matthew)

And again he went out beside the lake,a and the whole multitude was coming to him, and he was teaching them.
And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and he says to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him.
And it came to pass that he was reclining to eat in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners reclined with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many, and they were following him.
And the experts in the law who were Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why is he eating with tax collectors and sinners?”
And when Jesus heard it, he says to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick do. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Jesus Questioned About Fasting

And John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they come and say to him, “Why do John’s disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but your disciples do not fast?”
And Jesus said to them, “It is not possible for the wedding guestsb to fast while the bridegroom is with them, is it? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they are not able to fast.
But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.

“No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made.
And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wine will burst the skins and the wine is ruined and so are the skins. Instead, new wine is put into fresh wineskins.”

Lord of the Sabbath

And it came to pass that he was going through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain.
And the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing that which is not lawful on the Sabbath?”
And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and was hungry, he, and those who were with him,
how he went into the house of God when Abiathar was the high priest, and ate the Bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful to eat, except by the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?”
And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath;
therefore, the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
