Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
“Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the children of Israel and say to them: This is the thing that Yahweh has commanded:
Any man from the house of Israel who kills an ox or lamb or goat in the camp, or who kills it outside the camp
and does not bring it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting to offer it as an approach offering to Yahweh in front of the tabernacle of Yahweh, bloodguilt will be imputed to that man. He has shed blood, and that man must be cut off from among his people.
The reason for this is so that the children of Israel will bring their sacrifices that they have been sacrificing in the open field; that they bring them to Yahweh, to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting to the priest, and sacrifice them as sacrifices of peace offerings to Yahweh.
The priest is to sprinkle the blood on the altar of Yahweh at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and turn the fat into smoke-perfume for a pleasant aroma to Yahweh.
They must no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the goat-demons that they have prostituted themselves with. This will be a statute forever to them throughout their generations.
“You are to say to them: Any man—any man—of the house of Israel or of the strangers who live as foreigners among them who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice
and does not bring it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting to sacrifice it to Yahweh, that man must be cut off from his people.
“And any man of the house of Israel, or any of the strangers who live as foreigners among them, who eats any blood, I will set my face against that soul who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people,
for the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have assigned it for you on the altar to make atonement for your lives; for it is the blood that makes atonement because of the life it has.
Therefore I have said to the children of Israel: No person among you may eat blood; nor may any stranger who lives as a foreigner among you eat blood.”
“And any man of the children of Israel or of the strangers who live as foreigners among them who takes in hunting any animal or bird that may be eaten, he must pour out its blood and cover it with dust.
For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is its life: therefore I said to the children of Israel, You must not eat the blood of any kind of flesh; for the life of all flesh is its blood. Whoever eats it must be cut off.
“Any person who eats that which dies of itself or what is torn by animals, whether he is native–born or a foreigner, he is to wash his clothes and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening; then he will be clean.
But if he does not wash them or bathe his flesh, then he will bear his iniquity.’”
