Then her husband arose and went after her to speak to her heart to bring her back. He had his young servant with him and a pair of donkeys. And she brought him into her father’s house, and when the father of the young woman saw him, he rejoiced at meeting him.
“speak to her heart.” An idiom meaning, “to speak tenderly” (cp. Isa. 40:1).
“he rejoiced at meeting him.” That the girl’s father would rejoice at meeting the man suggests some culpability on the part of the woman.
