Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people who were with him rose up early and encamped beside the spring of Harod, and the camp of Midian was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the plain. Bible

“by the hill of Moreh in the plain.” The “plain” is part of what we know as the Jezreel Valley, but it is so broad it is really a plain at this point. Gideon’s men were about a mile away from the Midianites.
