The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,
“Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
and say to them, this is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: Cursed is the one who does not listen to the words of this covenant
that I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, ‘Listen to my voice, and do according to all that I command you, then you will be my people and I will be your God,’
so that I can fulfill the oath that I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is today.” Then I answered and said, “Amen, Yahweh.”

And Yahweh said to me, “Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Listen to the words of this covenant and do them.
For I warned, yes, warned your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and warning them again and again, saying, ‘Listen to my voice.’
Yet they did not listen or incline their ear, but each one walked in the stubbornness of his evil heart. Therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant that I commanded them to do, but which they did not do.”

Yahweh said to me, “A conspiracy has been discovered among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
They have returned to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words, and they have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant that I made with their fathers.

Therefore this is what Yahweh says: Behold, I will bring evil on them that they will not be able to escape, and they will cry out to me, but I will not listen to them.
Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to which they burn incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
For your gods have become as numerous as your cities, O Judah, and as many as the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up to that Shameful Thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

Therefore, Jeremiah, do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, for I will not listen to them when they cry out to me in the time of their trouble.
What right has my beloved in my house, when she has carried out so many evil schemes? Can holy meat take away your disaster? When you do evil, then you rejoice.
Yahweh called your name, ‘A green olive tree, beautiful and with good fruit.’ But with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire on it, and its branches are worthless.

For Yahweh of Armies, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you because of the evil that the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done, provoking me to anger by their burning incense to Baal.”
Yahweh made it known to me, and I knew it; then you showed me what they were doing.
But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter, and I did not know that they had schemed schemes against me, saying, “Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit, and let’s cut him off from the land of the living so that his name will no longer be remembered.”
But O Yahweh of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests the kidneys and the heart, let me see your vengeance on them, for to you I have committed my cause.

Therefore this is what Yahweh says concerning the men of Anathoth who seek your life, saying, “You must not prophesy in the name of Yahweh, so that you will not die by our hand,”
therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: “Behold, I will punish them. The young men will die by the sword, their sons and their daughters will die by famine,
and there will be no remnant of them, for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their punishment.”
