1“At that time, declares Yahweh, they will bring out of their graves the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of its officials, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
2and they will spread them before the sun and the moon and all the army of heaven that they have loved, and that they have served, and that they have followed, and that they have sought, and that they have worshiped. And they will not be collected and buried; they will be like dung on the surface of the ground.
3Death will be chosen rather than life by all the residue that remain of this evil family, that remain in all the places where I have driven them, says Yahweh of Armies.
4Moreover, you are to tell them: This is what Yahweh says:
Do people fall and not rise up again?
If one turns away, does he not return?
turned away in perpetual backsliding?
They hold fast to deceit;
they refuse to return.
but they did not speak what was right.
No one repents of his wickedness,
saying, ‘What have I done?’
Everyone turns to his own course
like a horse that rushes headlong into the battle.
knows her appointed times,
and the turtledove and the swallow and the crane
keep the time of their coming;
but my people do not know Yahweh’s law.
and the law of Yahweh is with us?’
But behold, the lying pen of the scribes
has made it into a lie.
and their fields to those who will take possession of them,
because everyone from the least even to the greatest
is greedy for gain;
from the prophet to the priest
everyone deals falsely.
saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
when there is no peace.
No, they were not at all ashamed,
neither could they blush;
therefore they will fall among those who fall;
in the time of their visitation they will be cast down,
no grapes will be on the vine,
nor figs on the fig tree,
and the leaf will fade;
and the things that I have given them will pass away from them.”
Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities,
and let us be silent there;
for Yahweh our God has put us to silence,
and given us water of gall to drink
because we have sinned against Yahweh.
and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!
at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones
the whole land trembles,
for they have come and have devoured the land
and all that is in it,
the city and those who dwell in it.
adders among you, that will not be charmed;
and they will bite you,”
My heart is faint within me.
and we are not saved.
I mourn; dismay has taken hold on me.
Is there no physician there?
Why then isn’t the health of the daughter
of my people recovered?
