1The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,
2to whom the word of Yahweh came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the 13th year of his reign.
3It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, continuing until the end of the 11th year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the people of Jerusalem were carried away captive in the fifth month.
Before you came out of the womb, I set you apart.
I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
for to whoever I will send you, you will go,
and whatever I will command you,
you will speak.
for I am with you to deliver you,
“Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
over the nations and over the kingdoms,
to pluck up and to break down
and to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”
I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.”
I said, “I see a boiling caldron, and it is tipping away from the north.”
“and they will come, and they will each set his throne
at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem
and against all its walls all around,
and against all the cities of Judah.”
17“But you, tuck your cloak under your belt, get up and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.
18For, behold, this day I have made you a fortified city, and an iron pillar and bronze walls against the whole land; against the kings of Judah, against its officials, against its priests and against the people of the land.
19They will fight against you but they will not prevail over you, for I am with you to deliver you,” says Yahweh.
