1“Sing, O barren one, who did not bear; break forth into singing and cry out loud, you who have not been in labor with child; for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife,” says Yahweh.
2“Enlarge the place of your tent and let them stretch out the curtains of your habitations; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your tent stakes.
3For you will spread out to the right hand and to the left, and your seed will possess the nations, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
4Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.
5For your Maker is your husband; Yahweh of Armies is his name, and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he will be called the God of all the earth.
6For Yahweh has called you as a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, even a wife of youth when she is rejected,” says your God.
7“For a small moment have I forsaken you, but with great mercies I will gather you.
8In overflowing wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting covenant faithfulness I will have mercy on you,” says Yahweh your Redeemer.
9“For this is like the waters of Noah to me; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah will no more go over the earth, so have I sworn that I will not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.
10For the mountains may depart and the hills may be removed, but my covenant faithfulness will not depart from you, nor will my covenant of peace be removed,” says Yahweh who has mercy on you.
11“O afflicted one, tossed by storms and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in beautiful colors and lay your foundations with sapphires.
12I will make your pinnacles of jewels and your gates of sparkling jewels, and all your walls of precious stones.
13All your children will be taught by Yahweh, and great will be the peace of your children.
14In righteousness you will be established; you will be far from oppression, for you will not be afraid, and far from terror, for it will not come near you.
15Behold, if anyone attacks you, it will not be from me; whoever will gather together against you will fall because of you.
16Behold, I have created the smith who blows the fire of coals and brings forth a weapon for its purpose, and I have created the destroyer to ruin.
17No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of Yahweh, and their vindication that is from me,” says Yahweh.
