“naked.” The Hebrew root word is arvm, and it is a homonym that can mean “naked” or “crafty,” and in this context, it means both. See commentary on Genesis 3:7. Since Adam apparently had a fig leaf loincloth on he was not technically “naked,” but he was expressing his feelings of shame, knowing they were inappropriate coverings and also given how God had created them without shame.
