Genesis Chapter 14    

¹Now in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim,
  ²they made war with Bera king of Sodom and Birsha king of Gomorrah and Shinab king of Admah and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
  ³All these joined together in the Plain of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).
  ⁴They served Chedorlaomer for 12 years, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
  ⁵In the fourteenth year, Chedorlaomer came, and the kings who were with him, and struck down the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,
  ⁶and the Horites in the hill country of Seir as far as El-paran, which is by the desert.
  ⁷Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh) and struck down all the territory of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites that lived in Hazazon-tamar.
 

⁸The king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out, and they lined up in the Plain of Siddim for battle against them;
  ⁹against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against the five.
  ¹⁰Now the Plain of Siddim was full of bitumen pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some people hid themselves in them,^a and the rest of them fled to the hill country.
  ¹¹They took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and went away.
  ¹²They also took Lot, the son of Abram’s brother, who lived in Sodom, and his possessions, and went away.
 

¹³Then someone who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. Now he was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol and the brother of Aner; and these were allies of Abram.
  ¹⁴When Abram heard that his relative was taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, 318, and pursued them as far as Dan.
  ¹⁵He split up his forces against them at night, he and his servants, and struck them down and pursued them to Hobah, which is north^b of Damascus.
  ¹⁶He brought back all the possessions, and he also brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, and also the women and the people.
 

¹⁷Then after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).
  ¹⁸And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine, and he was a priest of God Most High.
  ¹⁹He blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, creator of heaven and earth;
  ²⁰and blessed be God Most High, who has given your enemies into your hand.” And Abram gave him a tenth of all.
 

²¹And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, and take the possessions for yourself.”
 

²²Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand and sworn to Yahweh, God Most High, creator of heaven and earth,
  ²³that I will not take a thread nor a sandal strap nor anything that is yours, so that you cannot say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’
  ²⁴Nothing for myself! But what the young men have eaten and the share of the spoil of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, they must get their share.”
