He brought me back to the door of the house, and behold, water was flowing out from under the threshold of the house toward the east (for the front of the house faced toward the east). And the water was coming down from below the right side of the threshold of the house south of the altar.
Then he brought me out by the road of the north gate and led me around by an outer road to the outer gate, by the road of the gate that faces east. And behold, the water was trickling out from the right side.
When the man went out eastward with the line in his hand, he measured 1,000 cubits,a and he led me through the water, water that was to the ankles.
Again he measured 1,000, and led me through the water, water that was to the knees. Again he measured 1,000, and led me through the water, water that was to the waist.
Again he measured 1,000, and it was a river that I could not cross over, for the water had risen, deep enough water to swim in, a river that could not be crossed over.
He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he led me and brought me back to the bank of the river.
Now when I had returned, behold, on the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other.
Then he said to me, “This water flows out toward the eastern region, and will go down into the Arabah; and it will go toward the sea. The water that was made to flow out of the Temple will go into the sea, and the water of the sea will be healed.
Every living soul that swarms, in every place where the rivers go, will live; and there will be a very great multitude of fish, for this water has gone there, and the water of the sea will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.
Fishermen will stand by it. From En-gedi even to En-eglaim will be a place for the spreading of nets. It will come to pass that their fish will be of many different kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea, a great variety.
But its swamps and its marshes will not be healed; they will be left for salt.
By the river on its bank, on this side and on that side, will grow every tree for food, whose leaf will not wither, nor will its fruit fail; it will bring forth new fruit every month, because its waters issue out of the sanctuary; and its fruit will be for food, and its leaf for healing.
This is what the Lord Yahweh says: This will be the border by which you will divide the land for inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph will have two portions.
And you will divide it as an inheritance, each one equally with the other, for I lifted up my hand and swore to give it to your fathers, so this land will fall to you as an inheritance.
This is to be the border of the land: On the north side, from the Great Sea, by the way of Hethlon to the entrance of Zedad;
Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazer-hatticon, which is by the border of Hauran.
And the border will run from the sea to Hazar-enon at the border of Damascus; and on the north toward the north is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.
And the east side border will run between Hauran and Damascus along the Jordan between Gilead and the land of Israel; you will measure from the northern border to the eastern sea. This is the east side.
And the south side toward the south will extend from Tamar as far as the waters of Meriboth Kadesh, to the Brook of Egypt, to the Great Sea. This is the south side southward.
The west side will be the Great Sea, from the south border as far as over against Lebo-hamath. This is the west side.
So you are to divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel.
You are to divide it by lot for an inheritance to you and to the foreigners who live among you, who will father children among you; and they will be to you as the native-born among the children of Israel; they will have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.
In whatever tribe the foreigner lives, you will give him his inheritance there, says the Lord Yahweh.
