Then he brought me out by the way of the north gate into the outer court, and he brought me into the set of rooms that were opposite the separate area, and which were opposite the building toward the north.
The length of the building whose door faced north was 100 cubits,a and its width was 50 cubits.b
Opposite the 20 cubit space that belonged to the inner court, and opposite the pavement that belonged to the outer court, was a gallery facing a gallery in three stories.
And in front of the rooms was a walkway on the inside that was ten cubits wide,c a walkway one hundred cubits long,d and their entrances were on the north.
The upper rooms were narrower because the galleries took more space away from them than from the lower and the middle rooms in the building.
For they were in three stories, and they did not have pillars like the pillars that were in the courts; so the upper rooms were set back from the ground more than the lower and the middle ones.
And there was a wall that ran outside in front of the rooms, parallel to the rooms, toward the outer court; it was 50 cubits long.e
For the length of the rooms that were in the outer court was 50 cubits, and behold, the length of those facing the nave was 100 cubits.
At the base of these rooms was an entrance on the east side, as one enters them from the outer court.
At the beginning of the wall of the court toward the south,f facing the separate area and facing the building, there were rooms
with a passageway in front of them, just like the rooms that were on the north; of the same length and width, and with the same exits and arrangements and doors.
And corresponding to the entrances of the rooms that were toward the south was an entrance at the beginning of the passageway, the passageway at the beginning of the wall, on the east side, as one enters them.
Then he said to me, “The north rooms and the south rooms that are in front of the separate place are the holy rooms where the priests who approach Yahweh will eat the most holy offerings. They will place the most holy offerings there: the grain offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering, for the place is holy.
When the priests enter in, then they must not go out of the holy place into the outer court without leaving behind their garments in which they minister, for they are holy. They are to put on other garments before they approach the area that is for the people.”
Now when he had made an end of measuring the inner house, he brought me out through the way of the gate that faced toward the east, and measured the Temple area all around.
He measured on the east side with the measuring reed, 500 cubitsg by the measuring reed. Then he turned around
and measured on the north side, 500 cubits by the measuring reed. Then he turned
and measured on the south side 500 cubits by the measuring reed.
Then he turned around to the west side and measured 500 cubits by the measuring reed.
He measured it on the four sides. It had a wall around it, the length 500 cubits, and the width 500 cubits,h to make a separation between what was holy and what was common.
