Then he brought me to the Holy Place and measured the jambs, they were six cubits widea on the one side and six cubits wide on the other side, which was the width of the jambs.
The width of the entrance was ten cubits,b and the sides of the entrance were five cubitsc on the one side and five cubits on the other side. Then he measured the length of the Holy Place, 40 cubits,d and the width, 20 cubits.e
Then he went into the inner room and measured the jambs of the entrance, two cubits;f and the entrance, six cubits;g and the sidewalls on each side of the entrance, seven cubits.h
Then he measured its depth, 20 cubits,i and the width, 20 cubits, before the outer temple, and he said to me, “This is the Holy of Holies.”
Then he measured the wall of the house, six cubits thick;j and the width of every side-room, all around the house on every side, four cubits.k
The side-rooms were in three stories, one above another, with 30 rooms in each story. And there were offsets all around the wall of the house to serve as supports for the side rooms so that the rooms would not be supported by the wall of the house.
And the side-rooms surrounding the house got longer as they went higher and higher, for the structure surrounding the house went higher and higher around the house. So the width of the house increased as the house continued upward, and one went up from the lowest story to the highest by going through the middle story.
I saw also that the house had a raised platform all around—the foundations of the side rooms. It’s elevation was a full reed of six great cubits.l
The thickness of the wall, which was for the side rooms, on the outside, was five cubits. The free space between the side rooms of the house and the
other chambers was a width of 20 cubitsm all around the house on every side.
And the doors of the side rooms opened to the free space, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south. And the width of the free space was five cubits all around.n
And the building that was facing the separate area on the west side of the Temple was seventy cubits wide,o and the wall of the building was five cubitsp thick all around, and its length ninety cubits.q
So he measured the house, 100 cubits long;r and the separate area and the building with its walls, 100 cubits long;
also the width of the face of the house and of the separate area toward the east, 100 cubits.
Then he measured the length of the building facing the separate area that was at the back of the Temple, and its galleries on the one side and on the other side, 100 cubits. And the inner temple, and the vestibules of the court,
the thresholds and the niches and the galleries all around on the three sides, opposite the threshold, were paneled with wood all around, from the floor up to the niches (and the niches were covered),
to the space above the entrance, and as far as the inner house and on the outside. And on the walls all around inside and outside, was a measured pattern.
It was made with cherubim and palm trees, and a palm tree was between cherub and cherub. And every cherub had two faces,
so that there was the face of a man toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side. It was made like this through all the entire house.
Cherubim and palm trees had been made from the floor to above the entrance, and so also on the wall of the nave.
As for the nave, the doorposts were squared, and as for the front of the Holy of Holies, the appearance of one was like the appearance of the other.
The “altar” in the Holy Place was of wood, three cubits high,s and two cubits long;t and two cubits wide. Its corners and its base and its walls were of wood. And he said to me, “This is the table that is before Yahweh.”
The nave and the Holy of Holies both had double doors.
The doors each had two leaves, two swinging leaves; two leaves for the one door, and two leaves for the other.
There were carved on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubim and palm trees like as were carved on the walls. And there was a threshold of wood outside, in front of the vestibule.
And there were niches and palm trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the vestibule, and the side rooms of the house, and the beams.
