Vision of the New Temple

In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month in the fourteenth year after the city of Jerusalem was struck down, on that very day, the hand of Yahweh was on me, and he brought me there.
In the visions of God he brought me into the land of Israel and set me down on a very high mountain, on which there was a structure like a city on the south.
He brought me there, and, behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze, with a linen cord and a measuring reed in his hand; and he stood in the gate.
The man said to me, “Son of man, see with your eyes and hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I am going to show you, for you were brought here in order that I might show them to you. Declare all that you see to the house of Israel.”

The East Gate of the Outer Wall

And behold, there was a wall all around the outside of the house of God. And in the man’s hand was a measuring reed six cubits long,a each cubit being a cubit and a handbreadth. And he measured the thickness of the wall, one reed, and the height, one reed.
Then he came to the gate that faces toward the east and went up its steps, and he measured the threshold of the gate, one reed deep;b and the other threshold, one reed deep.
And every side room was one reed longc and one reed wide, and the distance between the side rooms was five cubits,d and the threshold of the gate by the vestibule of the gate at the inner end facing toward the house was one reed.
Then he measured the vestibule of the gate,
it was eight cubits,e and its jambs were two cubits;f and the vestibule of the gate was at the inner end.

The rooms of the east gate were three on this side and three on that side; the three were of the same measurement, and the jambs had the same measurement on this side and on that side.
Then he measured the width of the opening of the gate, ten cubits,g and the total width of the gate, 13 cubits;h
and there was a border in front of the rooms, one cubit on this side,i and a border of one cubit on that side, and the rooms were six cubits on this sidej and six cubits on that side.
He measured the gate from the roof of the one chamber to the roof of the other, a width of 25 cubits,k doorway facing doorway.
He also measured the vestibule, 60 cubits.l And around the vestibule of the gateway was the court.
And from the front of the gate at the outside entrance to the front of the vestibule on the inside side of the gate was 50 cubits.m
And there were niches all around, narrowing inwards toward the side rooms and toward their jambs, and likewise the vestibule had niches all around inside, and on the jambs were palm trees.

The Outer Court

Then brought he me into the outer court. And behold, there were rooms and a pavement laid out around the entire court; 30 rooms were facing the pavement.
The pavement (that is, the lower pavement) was by the side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates.
Then he measured the width of the court from the front of the lower gate to the front of the exterior of the inner court, 100 cubits,n on the east side and on the north side.

The North Gate of the Outer Wall

And as for the gate of the outer court that faced toward the north, he measured its length and its width.
It had three guardrooms on this side and three on that side, and its jambs and its vestibule were of the same size as those of the first gate. Its length was 50 cubits,o and its width 25 cubits.p
And its niches and its vestibule and its palm trees had the same measurement as the gate facing to the east. And people would go up to it by seven steps, and its vestibule would be in front of them.
And the inner court had a north gate opposite the outer gate on the north, just like the gate on the east did; and he measured 100 cubitsq from gate to gate.

The South Gate of the Outer Wall

Then he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a gate on the south, and he measured its jambs and its vestibule; they had the same measurements as the others.
It and its vestibule had niches all around like the niches of the others; the length was 50 cubitsr and the width 25 cubits.s
There were seven steps going up to it, and then its vestibule was before them,t and it had palm trees, one on this side and another on that side, on its jambs.
The inner court also had a gate facing toward the south; and he measured from gate to gate on the south side, 100 cubits.u

Gates of the Inner Wall

Then he brought me through the south gate to the inner court. And he measured the south gate, and its measurements were the same as the others.
And its guardrooms and its jambs and its vestibule were according to those same measurements, and there were niches all around it and its vestibule; it was 50 cubits long,v and 25 cubits wide.w
The vestibules all around were 25 cubits longx and 5 cubits wide.y
And its vestibule faced the outer court, and palm trees were on its jambs, and its stairway had eight steps.

Then he brought me into the inner court on the east side, and he measured the gate and its measurements were the same as the others.
And its guardrooms and its jambs and its vestibule were according to those same measurements, and there were niches all around it and its vestibule; it was 50 cubits long,z and 25 cubits wide.a
And its vestibule faced the outer court, and palm trees were on its jambs on this side and on that side, and the stairway to it had eight steps.

Then he brought me to the north gate, and he measured it. It had the same measurements as the others,
as did its guardrooms and its jambs and its vestibule, and there were niches all around it and its vestibule; it was 50 cubits long,b and 25 cubits wide.c
And its vestibule faced the outer court, and palm trees were on its jambs on this side and on that side, and the stairway to it had eight steps.

Rooms for Preparing Sacrifices

A room with its entrance was by the jambs at the gates; they washed the burnt offering there.
In the vestibule of the gate were two tables on this side and two tables on that side, on which to slaughter the burnt offering and the sin offering and the trespass offering.
And off to the side, on the outside as one goes up to the entrance of the north gate, were two tables, and off to the other side of the vestibule of the gate were two tables.
Four tables were on this side and four tables were on that side by the side of the gate—eight tables in all—on which they slaughtered the sacrifices.
There were four tables of hewn stone for the burnt offering, a cubit and a half long and a cubit and a half wide,d and one cubit high,e on which they laid the instruments with which the burnt offering and the sacrifice were slaughtered.
And hooks a handbreadth longf were fastened inside all around, and on the tables was to be the flesh of the offering.

Rooms for the Priests

On the outside of the inner gate, in the inner court, there were two rooms, one at the side of the north gate facing south, and one at the side of the south gate facing north.
Then he said to me, “This room that faces south is for the priests who keep charge of the house;
and the room that faces north is for the priests who keep charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who alone from among the sons of Levi may approach Yahweh to serve him.”
Then he measured the inner court, 100 cubits long and 100 cubits wide,g a square, and the altar was in front of the house.

The Temple

Then he brought me to the vestibule of the house and measured each jamb of the vestibule, five cubits on this side and five cubits on that side.h And the width of the gate was 14 cubits,i and the sidewalls were three cubits on this side and three cubits on that side.j
The vestibule was 20 cubitsk wide and 12 cubits deep.l Ten steps led up to it, and there were pillars by the jambs, one on this side and another on that side.
