The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
“Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are prophesying, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart, ‘Hear the word of Yahweh!’
This is what the Lord Yahweh says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!
O Israel, your prophets have been like jackals in the waste places.
You have not gone up into the gaps, nor built up the wall for the house of Israel so they can stand in the battle on the day of Yahweh.
They have seen falsehood and lying divination. They say, ‘Yahweh says,’ but Yahweh has not sent them, and yet they hope that their word will be fulfilled.
Have you not seen a false vision and spoken a lying divination when you say, ‘Yahweh says,’ even though I have not spoken?
Therefore this is what Lord Yahweh says: Because you have spoken falsehood and seen lies, therefore behold, I am against you, says Lord Yahweh.
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who give lying divinations. They will not be in the council of my people, nor will they be written down in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Thus you will know that I am Lord Yahweh.
Because, yes, because they have seduced my people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace, and because when anyone builds a flimsy wall, behold, they plaster it with whitewash,
therefore, tell those who plaster it with whitewash that it will fall; a flooding rain will come, and you, O great hailstones, will fall, and a stormy wind will break forth.
Behold, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the plaster with which you have plastered it?’
Therefore this is what the Lord Yahweh says: I will make a stormy wind to break forth in my wrath, and there will be a flooding rain in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to make a full end.
So will I break down the wall that you have plastered with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground so that its foundation will be uncovered; and it will fall, and you will be consumed in the midst of it, and you will know that I am Yahweh.
In this way I will accomplish my wrath on the wall and on those who have plastered it with whitewash, and I will say to you, ‘The wall is no more, nor are those who plastered it—
those prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her when there was no peace, says the Lord Yahweh.
Now you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own heart, and prophesy against them
and say: This is what the Lord Yahweh says: Woe to the women who sew magic bands for every wrist and make veils for the head of persons of every stature in order to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of my people and yet save your own souls alive?
You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death souls who should not die and keeping alive souls who should not live, by your lying to my people who listen to lies.
Therefore this is what the Lord Yahweh says: Behold, I am against your magic bands with which you hunt the souls there like birds, and I will tear them from your arms; and I will let the souls go, even the souls whom you hunt like birds.
I will also tear off your veils and deliver my people out of your hand, and they will no longer be in your hand to be hunted, and you will know that I am Yahweh.
Because you disheartened the righteous person with lies when I did not cause him grief, and strengthened the hands of the wicked person so that he does not turn from his wicked way and preserve his life.
Therefore you will no more see false visions, nor practice divination. I will deliver my people out of your hand, and you will know that I am Yahweh.”
