Ezekiel Chapter 1    

¹Now it happened in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the Chebar canal, that the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.
  ²In the fifth of the month, which was the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity,
  ³the word of Yahweh came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the Chebar canal; and the hand of Yahweh was on him there.
 

⁴I looked, and behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, a great cloud with fire flashing back and forth and a brightness all around it. And out of the center of it gleamed something like the glow of gleaming amber, out of the midst of the fire.
  ⁵And from the midst of it came what looked like four living creatures. This was their appearance: they had human form,
  ⁶but each one had four faces, and each one had four wings.
  ⁷Their legs were straight legs, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf’s foot, and they gleamed like burnished bronze.
  ⁸They had human hands under their wings on their four sides, and the four of them had their faces and their wings thus:
  ⁹their wings touched one another. They did not turn when they moved; each one went straight forward.
  ¹⁰As for the form of their faces, they had the face of a man in front, and the four of them had the face of a lion on the right side; and the four of them had the face of an ox on the left side; the four of them also had the face of an eagle.
  ¹¹Such were their faces. Their wings were spread out upward. Each creature had two wings that touched the wing of another, and two wings covering its body.
  ¹²Each creature moved straight forward; wherever the Spirit wanted to go, they went. They did not turn when they went.
 

¹³As for the form of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches. The fire moved back and forth between the living creatures, and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.
  ¹⁴The living creatures moved backward and forward as quickly as flashes of lightning.
 

¹⁵Now as I looked at the living creatures, I saw one wheel on the ground beside the living creatures, one wheel for each of the four of them.
  ¹⁶The appearance of the wheels and their construction was like the gleam of beryl, and the four of them had the same form. And their appearance and their construction was as if one wheel was inside another wheel.
  ¹⁷When they moved, they went in their four directions: they did not turn when they went.
  ¹⁸As for their rims, they were high and awe-inspiring; and the rims of the four of them gleamed all the way around.
  ¹⁹When the living creatures moved, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.
  ²⁰Wherever the Spirit wanted to go, there they would go, and the wheels rose along with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
  ²¹When those cherubim moved, these wheels went; and when those stopped, these stopped; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up beside them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
 

²²Over the head of the living creatures there was something like a platform, glittering awesomely like crystal, that was spread out over their heads, above them,
  ²³and under the platform their wings were stretched out straight, toward one another; each one also had two wings covering its body on the one side and on the other.
  ²⁴When they went, I heard the sound of their wings like the sound of mighty waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a sound of commotion like the sound of an army. Whenever they stopped, they let down their wings.
 

²⁵Then a voice came from above the platform that was over their heads; when they stopped, they let down their wings.
  ²⁶Above the platform that was over their heads was the form of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone; and on the form of the throne, high up, was a form like the form of a man.
  ²⁷And I saw from the appearance of his waist and upward what looked like gleaming amber, with like the appearance of fire enclosing it all around, and from the appearance of his waist and downward I saw what looked like fire. And there was brightness all around him,
  ²⁸like the appearance of the rainbow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around him. This was the appearance of the form of the glory of Yahweh. When I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of someone speaking.
