Then he brought me to the gate, the gate that faces to the east.
And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the direction of the east, and its sound was like the sound of many waters, and the earth was radiant with his glory.
And the vision that I saw was like the vision that I saw when hea came to destroy the city, and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the Chebar canal, and I fell upon my face.
And the glory of Yahweh came into the house by the way of the gate that faced to the east.
Then the Spirit picked me up and brought me into the inner court, and behold, the glory of Yahweh filled the house!
I heard someone speaking to me out of the house while the man was standing beside me.
He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever. The house of Israel will no longer defile my holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their prostitution and by the dead bodies of their kings at their shrines.
When they placed their threshold by my threshold and their doorpost beside my doorpost, and there was only a wall between me and them, then they defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed, so I have consumed them in my anger.
Now let them put far away from me their prostitution and the dead bodies of their kings, and I will dwell in their midst forever.
As for you, son of man, describe the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities. And let them measure the pattern,
and they will be ashamed of all that they have done. Make known to them the plan of the temple, its arrangement, its exits and its entrances, and its whole form—all its ordinances and its entire plan and all its laws; and write it down in their sight, so that they will observe and follow the entire plan and all its ordinances.
This is the law of the house: on the top of the mountain the whole area around it will be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house.
These are the measures of the altar by cubits (the cubit is a cubit and a handbreadth):b the height of the bottom is to be a cubit, and the width a cubit, and its rim around its edge a span. This is the base of the altar.
From the bottom on the ground to the lower ledge is to be two cubits,c and the width one cubit;d and from the lesser ledge to the greater ledge is to be four cubits,e and the width a cubit.
The upper altar is to be four cubits high,f and from the altar hearth and upward there are to be four horns.
The altar hearth is to be 12 cubits long by 12 wide,g square in the four sides of it.
The ledge is to be 14 cubits long by 14 wide in the four sides of it,h and the border around it is to be half a cubit;i and its bottom is to be a cubit wide around, and its steps will face to the east.”
Then he said to me, “Son of man, this is what the Lord Yahweh says: These are the ordinances concerning the altar on the day it is built, to offer burnt offerings on it and to sprinkle blood on it.
You are to give to the Levitical priests who are of the seed of Zadok, who draw near to me to minister to me, says the Lord Yahweh, a young bull for a sin offering.
You must take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of it, and on the four corners of the ledge and on the border all around; thus you will cleanse it and make atonement for it.
You must also take the bull that is the sin offering and it must be burned in the appointed place of the house, outside of the holy place.
On the second day you are to offer a male goat without blemish for a sin offering, and they will cleanse the altar, as they cleansed it with the bull.
When you have finished cleansing it, you are to offer a young bull without blemish, and a ram out of the flock without blemish.
You must bring them near to Yahweh, and the priests will scatter salt on them and offer them up for a burnt offering to Yahweh.
Every day you are to prepare a goat for a sin offering for seven days; they must also prepare a young bull and a ram out of the flock without blemish.
Seven days are they to make atonement for the altar and purify it; in this way they will dedicate it for divine service.
When they have completed the days, it will be that on the eighth day and forward, the priests will make your burnt offerings on the altar, and your peace offerings, and I will accept you, says the Lord Yahweh.”
