“When you have come into the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance, and possess it and live in it,
you are to take of the first of all the fruit of the ground that you produce from your land that Yahweh your God is going to give you, and you are to put it in a basket and are to go to the place that Yahweh your God will choose, to make his name dwell there.
You are to go to the priest who will be there in those days and you are to say to him, ‘I profess this day to Yahweh your God that I have come to the land that Yahweh swore to our fathers to give us.’
“Then the priest is to take the basket out of your hand and set it down before the altar of Yahweh your God.
Then you are to answer and say before Yahweh your God: ‘A wandering Syrian was my father, and he went down into Egypt and resided there, few in number; but he became a nation there, great, mighty, and populous.
But the Egyptians mistreated us and afflicted us and laid hard labor upon us,
and we cried out to Yahweh, the God of our fathers, and Yahweh heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression,
and Yahweh brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm, and with great acts of terror and with signs and with wonders,
and he brought us to this place and has given us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Now, behold, I have brought the first of the fruit of the ground that you, O Yahweh, have given me.’ “You will set it down before Yahweh your God and bow downa before Yahweh your God.
You are to rejoice in all the good things that Yahweh your God has given to you and to your house, you and the Levite and the foreigner who is in your midst.
“When you finish tithing all the tithe of your increase in the third year, which is the year of tithing, you are to give it to the Levite, to the foreigner, to the fatherless and to the widow, that they may eat it within your gates and be satisfied.
And you are to say in the presence of Yahweh your God: ‘I have removed the holy portion out of my house and also have given it to the Levite and to the foreigner, to the fatherless and to the widow in accordance with all your commandments that you have commanded me; I have not turned aside from any of your commandments, nor have I forgotten them.
I have not eaten of it while I was mourning, nor have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor given any of it for the dead. I have listened to the voice of Yahweh my God; I have done according to all that you have commanded me.
Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Israel and the ground that you have given us as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.’
“This day Yahweh your God commands you to do these statutes and laws; you are therefore to keep and do them with all your heart and with all your soul.
Today you have declared Yahweh to be your God, and that you will walk in his ways and keep his statutes and his commandments and his laws, and listen to his voice.
And Yahweh has declared you today to be his people, his treasured possession, as he has promised you, and that you are to keep all his commandments;
and then he will set you, in praise and in name and in honor, high above all nations that he has made, and you will be a holy people to Yahweh your God, as he has spoken.”
