“the Anakim.” The Anakim were descendants of Anak, who was one of the Nephilim (Num. 13:33), and thus they were related to the Rephaim, the descendants of Rapha (Joshua left some in the Philistine country (Josh. 11:22), cp. 2 Sam. 21:16, 18, 20, 22).
