Deuteronomy Chapter 18    

¹“The Levitical priests, and all the tribe of Levi, will have no portion nor inheritance with Israel; they will eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, for that is his inheritance.
  ²They will have no inheritance of land among their brothers. Yahweh is their inheritance as he has spoken to them.
  ³This will be the priests’ share from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is an ox or sheep: they are to give to the priest the shoulder and the two cheeks and the belly.
  ⁴The firstfruits of your grain, of your new wine and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep you are to give him.
  ⁵For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in the name of Yahweh, he and his sons all the days to come.
  ⁶Now if a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel where he lives—and he may come when his soul desires—to the place that Yahweh will choose,
  ⁷then he may minister in the name of Yahweh his God, as all his brothers the Levites do who stand there before Yahweh.
  ⁸They will have equal portions to eat, even though he also has what came from the sale of his ancestral property.
 

⁹“When you have come into the land that Yahweh your God is giving you, you are not to learn to do the abominable things that those nations do.
  ¹⁰There is not to be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, who practices divination, who tells fortunes, or interprets omens, or practices sorcery,
  ¹¹or one who casts spells, or one who inquires of spirits or of a familiar spirit, or a necromancer.
  ¹²For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh, and because of these abominations Yahweh your God will drive them out from before you.
  ¹³You must be blameless before Yahweh your God.
  ¹⁴For those nations that you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery and to diviners, but as for you, Yahweh your God does not allow you to do so.
 

¹⁵“Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me. You must listen to him.
  ¹⁶This is according to all that you desired of Yahweh your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of Yahweh my God, nor let me see this great fire any more, so that I do not die.’
  ¹⁷Yahweh said to me, ‘What they have spoken is good.
  ¹⁸I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you, and I will put my words in his mouth and he will speak to them all that I command him.
  ¹⁹And it will be that whoever will not listen to my words that he will speak in my name, I will require a reckoning from him.
  ²⁰But the prophet who dares speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet will die.’
  ²¹And if you say in your heart, ‘How can we know that Yahweh has not spoken the word?’
  ²²When a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh, if the word does not happen, is not fulfilled, then Yahweh has not spoken that word; the prophet has spoken it out of his presumption, do not be afraid of him.”
