The Stone Altar on Mount Ebal

Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, “Keep every commandment that I command you this day.
So it is to be that on the day when you cross over the Jordan to the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you, you are to set yourself up great stones and plaster them with plaster,
and you are to write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over, in order that you may go in to the land that Yahweh your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh the God of your fathers has promised you.
When you have crossed over the Jordan, you are to set up these stones that I command you this day on Mount Ebal, and you are to plaster them with plaster.
You are to build an altar to Yahweh your God there, an altar of stones; you are not to wield an iron tool on them.
You are to build the altar of Yahweh your God of uncut stones, and you are to offer burnt offerings on it to Yahweh your God.
When you offer peace offerings you are to eat them there; and you are to rejoice before Yahweh your God.
You are to write very clearly on the stones all the words of this law.”

Curses From Mount Ebal

Now Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel, saying, “Keep silence and listen, O Israel! This day you have become the people of Yahweh your God.
So you are to obey the voice of Yahweh your God and keep his commandments and his statutes that I command you this day.”

And Moses commanded the people the same day, saying,
“When you have crossed over the Jordan, these tribes are to stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi and Judah; Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin.
And these are to stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad and Asher; Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.
And the Levites are to answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice:

‘Cursed is anyone who makes a carved image or a cast image, an abomination to Yahweh, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And all the people are to answer and say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who dishonors his father or his mother.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who moves his neighbor’s boundary marker.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who leads a blind person astray on the road.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who denies the justice due to the foreigner, fatherless, or widow.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who lies with his father’s wife, because he has uncovered his father’s skirt.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who lies with any kind of animal.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who lies with his mother-in-law.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who strikes down his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’
‘Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by doing them.’ And all the people are to say, ‘Amen!’”
