“When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, that he may write her a bill of divorce and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
When she has departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s wife.
And if the second husband hates her and writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the second husband, who took her to be his wife, dies,
her former husband, who sent her away may not take her again to be his wife, after she has been made unclean, for that is an abomination before Yahweh; and you must not cause the land to sin that Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance.
“If a man is found stealing any of his brothers of the children of Israel and he deals with him as a slave or sells him, then that thief must die; so you must put away the evil from the midst of you.
“Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that you observe diligently and do according to all that the Levitical priests teach you; as I commanded them, so you are to observe to do.
Remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam by the way as you came out of Egypt.
“When you do lend your neighbor any kind of loan, you are not to go into his house to get his pledge.
You must stand outside, and the man to whom you make the loan must bring the pledge outside to you.
If he is a poor man, you must not sleep in his pledge;
you are to return, yes, return the pledge to him when the sun goes down so that he can sleep in his garment and bless you, and that will be righteousness to you before Yahweh your God.
“You are not to oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he be of your brothers or of your foreigners who are in your land inside your gates;
on that same day you are to give him his wages, nor is the sun to go down on it, for he is poor and sets his heart on it; lest he cry out against you to Yahweh and it is sin to you.
“The fathers are not to be put to death for the sins of the children, nor are the children to be put to death for the fathers; every man will be put to death for his own sin.
You are not to deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, nor take a widow’s clothing in pledge;
but you are to remember that you were a bondservant in Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you there. Therefore I command you to do this thing.
“When you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you are not to go again to get it; it is to be for the foreigner, for the fatherless and for the widow, that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
When you beat your olive tree, you must not go over the boughs again; it will be for the foreigner, for the fatherless and for the widow.
When you harvest your vineyard, you must not glean it after yourselves; it will be for the foreigner, for the fatherless and for the widow.
You are to remember that you were a bondservant in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this thing.”
