David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, 30,000.
And David arose and went with all the people who were with him to Baale of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God that is called by the Name, the name of Yahweh of Armies who sits enthroned above the cherubim.
They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart,
and they brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was on the hill with the ark of God on it, and Ahio went before the ark.
Now David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before Yahweh with many branches of fir trees, and with harps and lyres and with tambourines and with sistrums and with cymbals.
And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached for the ark of God and took hold of it because the oxen let it slip.
Then the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for his error, and he died there by the ark of God.
And David became angry because Yahweh had broken out, a breaking out against Uzzah, and that place is called Perez-uzzah to this day.
And David was afraid of Yahweh that day and he said, “How can the ark of Yahweh come to me?”
So David did not take the ark of Yahweh with him into the city of David, but David carried it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
And the ark of Yahweh stayed at the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and Yahweh blessed Obed-edom and all his house.
And it was told to King David, saying, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-edom and everything he has because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with rejoicing.
And so it was that when those who carried the ark of Yahweh had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.
And David danced before Yahweh with all his might, and David was wearing a linen ephod.
When David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of Yahweh with shouting and with the sound of the shofar,
and as the ark of Yahweh was coming into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out from the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before Yahweh, and she despised him in her heart.
They brought the ark of Yahweh and set it in its place in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it, and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.
When David had made an end of offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies.
And he distributed to all the people, to the whole multitude of Israel, to both men and women, one loaf of bread, one portion of dates, and one portion of raisins. So all the people departed, each one to his house.
Then David returned to bless his household, but Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How honorable was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself today before the eyes of the slave girls of his servants like one of the rabble shamelessly uncovers himself!”
And David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me over your father and over all his house to appoint me ruler over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. So I will celebrate before Yahweh.
And I will be more lightly esteemed than this and will be lowly in my own sight. And with the slave girls of whom you have spoken, with them I will be honored.”
And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
