The Levites took down the ark of Yahweh and the chest that was with it in which were the objects of gold and put them on the great stone, and on that day the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices to Yahweh.
“The Levites took down the ark.” Joshua 21:16 says that Beth-shemesh was a Levitical city, so the presence of the Levites would be expected.
