David Flees to the Philistines

Now David said in his heart, “I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape, yes, escape into the land of the Philistines, and Saul will give up seeking for me any more in all the territory of Israel. So I will escape out of his hand.”
So David arose and crossed over, he and the 600 men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
And David stayed with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household. David was with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
It was reported to Saul that David had fled to Gath, so he did not search for him any more.

And David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, let me be given a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”
So Achish gave him Ziklag that day; so Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.
The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.

And David and his men went up and made a raid on the Geshurites and the Girzites and the Amalekites, for those were the inhabitants of the land who were of old, as you go to Shur, as far as the land of Egypt.
And David struck the land and did not leave alive a man or woman, and took away the sheep and the cattle and the donkeys and the camels and the clothing, and he returned and came to Achish.
And Achish said, “Where have you made a raid today?” And David said, “Against the Negev of Judah, against the Negev of the Jerahmeelites, and against the Negev of the Kenites.”

David did not leave alive a man or a woman to bring to Gath, saying, “Lest they report about us, saying, ‘This is what David did, and this has been his way the whole time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”
So Achish came to trust David, saying, “He has made himself a stench, yes, a stench among his people Israel, and so he will be my servant forever.”
