So his servants said to him, “Let them search for a young virgin for my lord the king. Let her stand before the king and be in his service, and let her lie in your bosom so that my lord the king may keep warm.”
“stand before.” In this context this is an idiom meaning “attend to,” “serve,” and in this context “care for.” It was a general custom for people to stand before the king (see commentary on Isa. 14:13).
